Drew Ninmer is a freelance trumpet player, composer, contractor and educator in the Los Angeles area. As a freelance musician, he has performed with the Los Angeles Opera, Hollywood Chamber Orchestra, Juneau Symphony, Golden State Pops Orchestra Hollywood Concert Orchestra, California Philharmonic Orchestra and has played at such prestigious venues as Walt Disney Concert Hall, The Hollywood Bowl and the Greek Theatre with various artists.
Drew is an active studio musician for film and tv, having recorded for Nathan Barr, Bear McCreary, Sean Callery, and Russell Brower among others. He is the concertmaster, contractor, and staff arranger for the Southern California Brass Consortium. In addition, Drew was a featured trumpet player in the Oscar winning film Whiplash.
As a jazz artist, he has performed at the Java Jazz Festival in Indonesia with the Ron King Big Band as well as in Japan with the Billy Vaughn Jazz Orchestra. He has also performed with the Bill Holman Big Band, the Clare Fischer Jazz Ensemble, Alan Chan Big Band and many others.
In addition to performing, Drew is a sought-after composer, arranger and orchestrator. He has composed and arranged for a variety of ensembles, from concert bands to orchestras, jazz ensembles to pep bands. Drew has orchestrated theme park music for Paramount, Warner Bros., and Six Flags.
Originally from Taylorville, Illinois, Drew has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois-Champaign/Urbana and a master’s degree from California State University, Long Beach, both in jazz studies. He currently serves as adjunct professor of trumpet at Long Beach City College and El Camino College and maintains a large private trumpet studio.
